LPS 1175: Issue 5.1, 2004: Specification for testing and classifying the burglary resistance of building components, strong-points and security enclosures. This covers a range of products for which the LPCB have developed tests to satisfy the security needs of insurers, police, government or other specifiers.

What is approval?

Approval (or certification as it is also known) is independent third party confirmation that products and systems meet and continue to meet appropriate standards.

It is different from just doing a test, which is basically a snapshot showing that a product passed a test on a given day.  It is also significantly different to CE marking which is not a quality mark, but a manufacturers declaration that a product meets the essential requirements for Europe.  BRE believes the marks stand for something special - they are true 'quality marks' which are recognised across the world.
